The Original and Authentic GlueCon
We ran the very first GlueCon in May of 2009. In May of 2018, we ran the 10th annual GlueCon. In 2019, we will run the 11th annual Glue Conference. So, you can imagine our surprise when, a few weeks ago, a Google alert showed up in our inbox saying that the "first ever" and "inaugural" GlueCon would be running in just a few days. Yes, after being in business for more than a decade, GlueCon's brand and trademark were being hijacked. With that in mind, I wanted to take a quick look back at the history of GlueCon. The "Glue Conference" -- known affectionately as "GlueCon" since day 1 -- began with the idea that there were some new developments in technology around the "connective tissue" of our infrastructure and platforms. By the time we ran the first show, GlueCon was firmly on to the topic of APIs (making it the first non-vendor show to talk about APIs). From APIs, GlueCon became one of the first places to dive deep on all things Cloud (IaaS, PaaS, etc). This led, quite naturally, to a deeper and deeper focus on developer technologies. And, eventually, we'd see things like Docker and Kubernetes be presented at GlueCon in their earliest incarnations. To this day, we continue to stay at the forefront of developer topics (microservices, serverless, etc), but along the way, something more important happened: GlueCon became a community. We became a community that's inclusive, and welcoming, and (we think) pretty damn special. All of which is to say that we do not take another IT company trying to hijack our brand and trademark lightly. To the contrary. We're deeply disturbed by any confusion this is causing in the marketplace. The hijacking has very clearly not been a mistake. And, as such, we've engaged our lawyers to handle these matters. We'll keep you, the community, updated as that progresses. In the meantime, if you're seeing google alerts or things on twitter that seem like they're out of place with the GlueCon you've come to know, that's because it's not us. Quite the opposite. We are in no way, shape or form associated with the imposter conference.Kim and I have spent over 10 years building GlueCon. I think all of our past attendees know the level of devotion that we bring to the show. We've already begun signing up sponsors for GlueCon 2019, and Super Early Bird registration is open. There is only one original and authentic GlueCon. We've been here for 10 years. We're about to hold our 11th annual conference. And, we'll be here for years to come.We look forward to seeing everyone in May 2019.
